'Sports Club of the Year' Rochford District Council Sports Awards 2015

We are honoured that Rochford Running Club was named 'Sports Club of the Year 2015' in the annual Rochford and Castle Point Sports Awards at Mill Hall, Rayleigh on 12 November 2015.

The key achievements of the club that led to the award were summarised by the judging panel as:

  • Staging the first-ever Rochford 10k race (which was sold out)
  • Since 2012 - helping more than 300 sedentary people into running regularly through the Beginners' programme (with more than 100 of these being in the last year)
  • Fielding 61 runners in the HARP homeless charity event, HARP24, and raising over £1,000 for the cause
  • Voluntarily providing 13 qualified running leaders and coaches to help local people get the most from their running

The club were presented with a shield, a glass trophy, a certificate and a cheque for £100 by the Chairman of Rochford Council and ex-Essex and England cricketer Ronnie Irani.

Introduction to the Club

Rochford Running Club (RRC) was formed in 2012 to serve the community of Rochford (Essex) and the surrounding area.  From humble beginnings the Club has now grown substantially and has gained affiliation with the national governing body, England Athletics.

Whether you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned ultra-marathon runner, there is a place for you at RRC.  Our beginner groups take those new to the sport from not running at all up to 3 miles continuously  in 12 weeks (or sooner).  Those that catch the bug move into the 'improvers' groups, with many signing up for, and completing, their very first competitive races.

Those aiming for more demanding events, such as the London Marathon, will also find the help, advice and assistance they need to cover the distance come race day.  We have several experienced members who have completed a number of endurance events - all of whom are keen to show others how to take on an extreme challenge.

Our Club Nights are every Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.  We run a number of different sessions in a variety of locations, suitable for all standards, with sessions led by qualified running leaders.  See the 'RRC Running Nights' link for more information.
